Sport
Woolooware High has been a very successful sporting school for many years. Our strength comes from the participation rates of our students across a wide variety of sporting endeavours.
There are many and varied opportunities for students to participate in sport at different levels.
Thursday Sport
Thursday weekly sport is mandatory at WHS for all students from Years 7–10.
We have a Graded Sport competition played between schools in the Port Hacking Sports Zone, as well as Recreation Sport activities held at venues across the Sutherland Shire. We have a summer sport and winter sport season during the school year. On average there are about 50 – 60 Grade sports teams from Woolooware each year competing in Beach Volleyball, Touch Football, Netball, Soccer, Oztag, Basketball, Cricket and Waterpolo amongst other sports. These teams are graded, so that students from our school can compete against students from other schools of a similar ability to increase enjoyment and participation.
Year 7 students participate in a school-based sports program at the start of Term 1 before selecting from the Grade or Recreation sport options with the rest of the school.
School Carnivals
Woolooware holds annual Swimming, Athletics and Cross Country carnivals. Attendance at these carnivals is mandatory. They are great whole school events that are not to be missed!
Woolooware teams are selected at these carnivals for further competitions at the Zone, Region and State Level.
Port Hacking Zone Sport
Woolooware belongs to the Port Hacking Zone for sport – along with 6 other local schools.
We compete at the Port Hacking Zone carnivals in Swimming, Athletics and Cross Country, where Woolooware has a successful history of winning the Overall Points Championships and setting records.
Woolooware is a founding member of the annual Port Hacking Zone League & League Tag Cup, fielding teams in Rugby League for boys and League Tag for girls. These competitions are a valued opportunity to reward students who exemplify positive school behaviours throughout the year with representing their school with pride and dedication on the field. These games provide unique opportunities for strengthening bonds with peers, encouraging teamwork and developing athletic skills in an encouraging environment.
CHS Knockout Sports & Sydney East Regional Sports
Woolooware belongs to the Sydney East School Sports Association.
We have had amazing and consistent success in knockout competitions and individual events in a wide range of sports for both boys and girls. The knockout competitions are conducted throughout the school year at different times.
Woolooware has had a large number of students represent our school at this level in a great variety of sports including AFL, Baseball, Basketball, Cricket, Football, Hockey, Lawn Bowls, Netball, Rugby League, Softball, Tennis, Touch Football, Gymnastics and Waterpolo amongst other sports.
Our students are not limited to competing in traditional sports. We encourage our students to participate in a variety of activities and as a result we have had teams and individuals competing in school competitions in diverse sports such as Golf, Surfing, Equestrian, Snowsports, Surf Lifesaving and Triathlon to name a few.
