Developing Good Study Skills

The ELES Study Skills Handbook

Students at Woolooware High School have access to a comprehensive online interactive resource in our subscription to the ELES Study Skills Handbook.

The Study Skills Handbook contains 28 interactive modules to help students develop and improve the various skills used to set goals for study, deal with homework and prepare for exams. Each module has information, video and audio podcasts, quizzes and games as well as a summary and FAQs section.

The site's tracking system is set up in Year 7 when students work through introductory units in their Literacies class. This allows students to record their results in Quizzes and Modules and to trach the units they have completed.

Parents can print/view guides to help them work together with their children to create a space at home conducive to study.

Prue Salter ELES Presentations

Each year, Dr Prue Salter, author and creator of the Study Skills Handbook, delivers a session for Year 11 students designed to set them up for success in their HSC years.

Parents and their Year 7 and 8 students also have an evening workshop with Dr Prue Salter during Term 2 where parents are encouraged to do the activities with their child to work out better strategies to use at home.

ELEVATE

In Year 11, students participate in the ELEVATE program where university students take groups through a series of activities to help them establish good work practices for the HSC.

Further information about improving students' study skills is available through the school Library.
