Supporting student learning

Woolooware High School believes that every student's education is important. As a result, we proudly offer an extensive range of support services and provide a variety of learning assistance programs to help cater for all levels of student learning.

Our dedicated Learning and Support Team (LST) work collaboratively with staff to regularly identify, assist and monitor students with specific educational and learning needs.

Woolooware High School support services include:

  1. Providing a committed and experienced Learning and Support Teacher (LAST) who supports students with additional educational needs in both individual and classroom settings. The LAST also works in close partnership with classroom teachers in the aim of developing and delivering the best learning outcomes for all students.
  2. Providing qualified School Learning Support Officers (SLSO's) to assist targeted students in and out of the classroom in the aim of developing and enhancing student learning.
  3. Providing skilled Itinerant Support Teachers of Hearing (ISTH) who deliver learning assistance to our hearing impaired students and their families.
  4. Development of Personalised Learning Plans (PLP's) for students, in partnership with families and classroom teachers, to cater for individual learning needs.
  5. Implementation of Disability Provisions (with approval from the BoS) to practically assist senior students during exam periods.
  6. Development of Aboriginal Learning Plans (ALP's) and access to specialised Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander (ATSI) courses and programs.

Woolooware High School learning assistance programs include:

  1. The TAFE accredited Peer Tutoring program; a program that specifically trains Year 10 students to assist Year 7 students with reading and learning difficulties using authentic classroom texts.
  2. The Peer Support program; a program run by trained Year 10 leaders who work with small groups of Year 7 students empowering them with knowledge and skills to help support each other in the transition from primary to high school.
  3. The Nightly Reading Scheme; a program targeted at Year 7 students which improves reading fluency, increase vocabulary, increase reading confidence and in turn, increases overall self-esteem.
  4. The Norta Norta program; a tutorial assistance program designed to assist Year 11 and 12 Aboriginal students.
