Computing

Computer Studies is taught in a variety of ways at Woolooware High School.

Year 7 students have a 2 period per cycle TEC Computers course. The basics of Computer operations and Word Processing, Email and Internet, Databases, Spreadsheets, Graphics and Multimedia are taught.

All core classes throughout the school cover Information, Communication and Technology within their syllabus/programs, building on the skills learnt in Year 7 TEC classes.

Information and Software Technology

Year 9 and 10 students who choose Information and Software Technology as an elective learn Digital Citizenship, word processing/publishing, hardware/software, graphics – stop motion animation and video production and editing, Databases and Spreadsheets, programming – Visual Basic, Python Challenge and Robotics. These topics are taught in a project based approach.

Information Processes and Technology – Year 11 and 12

The Information Processes and Technology course develops and understanding of how a computer can be used to solve problems. Projects on Databases, group project management and Website design (as part of Multimedia) are undertaken.

Software Design and Development – Year 11 and 12

Software Design and Development is a course that covers the designing and building of software and how software interacts with other computer components. Computer coding is learnt in a few different programming languages such as Visual Basic, Pascal and ApInventor. Students develop programs to solve different problems including apps. They experience working in a team situation as well as a major individual project in their HSC year.
