History

History courses at Woolooware High School allow students to further expand their fascination with the past, to apply the research skills of a historian and archaeologist. The junior course covers a diverse range of topics including Ancient Egypt, the life of the Shoguns in Japan, the Medieval World, segregation in the modern world, the holocaust and the rise of popular culture in Australia.

Ancient History

The bi annual field trip to Greece for Ancient History students equips them with the skills to question and interpret written and archaeological sources. Various field trips, such as the field trip to the ancient site of Troizon further enhance these attributes. Students be able to watch and experience a team of archaeologists using the latest methods to extrapolate and analyse source material using non- destructive methods. They are in a better position to plan and present the findings of historical investigation by analysing and synthesising information from a range of sources.

History also has a strong prerogative to further enhance students’ education, by introducing them to a wide range of cultures and customs. It empowers them with knowledge, understanding, skills and attitudes that can be employed for lifelong learning.

Modern History

Modern History takes a serious and enjoyable look at the modern world. Students are provided with an opportunity to look at topics such as World War 1, Germany in the Twentieth Century, the mercurial life and times of Leni Riefenstahl and the impact of the Cold War on current society.
