TAS - Industrial Arts

The Industrial Arts faculty aims to expose students to both traditional and industry standard technologies to provide them with opportunities to engage in innovative practical design activities as well as developing fundamental practical skills.

We aim to provide opportunities to:

  • Develop new skills and techniques
  • Be creative and innovative
  • Critically think and problem solve

Practical Experiences

Our courses provide students with exposure to a wide range of technological concepts and activities in the areas of:

  • Architectural and technical drawing
  • 3D modelling and rapid prototyping
  • Laser cutting and 3D printing
  • Marine and Aquaculture – including hands on experiences at the Great Barrier Reef and local coastal areas
  • Practical projects  which utilise the technologies of Plastic, Timber, Electronics and Metal

Most practical projects offer the option of submitting a 'DA' (development application) where students are encouraged to take an existing project design and submit an application to make individual design changes to fulfil specific requirements.

The structure and range of courses the Industrial Arts faculty offers, endeavours to encourage students to develop individual work habits, problem solving and critical thinking skills, pride in the production of quality product and a sense of creative achievement.

These experiences are essential for students to form a solid foundation for post-secondary education career choices and University.
