Our Wellbeing Team is made up of students and teachers who work together to ensure students develop a sense of belonging in the school and thrive in a positive learning environment.
Students are actively involved in information gathering, planning, developing and delivering programs across the school that empower students and staff with the tools they need to ensure students grow into safe, resilient and confident learners.
Building student agency and a strong sense of advocacy, the team has been recognised at regional and state forums for the development of the Step in, Step up anti bullying action plan.
Role of the Anti-Racism Contact Officer (ARCO)
Racism can have serious impacts on educational outcomes, wellbeing and student behaviour. As such, promoting acceptance of cultural diversity and challenging discriminatory behaviours is an important issue at Woolooware High School. The ARCO is a trusted and experienced member of staff who works to minimise or eliminate racism and its effect on school communities. In the event of an allegation of racism, the ARCO provides a structure through which students, parents, teaching and non-teaching staff and community members can be confident their complaints will be listened to and dealt with in a timely, impartial and professional manner. The ARCO can use informal conflict resolution; assist with the lodging of a formal complaint; and gather data about racism. The ARCO also has a proactive role in raising awareness and promoting anti-racism education in the school. The ARCO is currently Ms Sales.
Be You
Be You, a national mental health in education initiative, promotes mental health and wellbeing from the early years to 18, empowering educators to develop valuable mental health skills and knowledge, while also providing an effective model for implementing a whole-learning community approach to mental health and wellbeing.
Affiliated with Beyond Blue and Headspace, the Be You philosophy strongly correlates with our own mission statement from Wellbeing: based in positive psychology and the principles of Growth Mindset, where ‘every learning community is positive, inclusive and resilient – a place where every child, young person, educator and family can achieve their best possible mental health'.
